The key design issue we had to overcome on this project was how to provide a sympathetic extension to an original thatched cottage. Through the use of traditional materials such as oak framing, flint work and reclaimed bricks, combined with contemporary glazing systems, we have created a spacious and unique transformation to this home, giving it a new lease of life.

By pulling one half of the extension beyond the other, we were able to create a sun trap canopied by a solid oak pergola, protecting the glazing from overheating, whilst creating a desirable outdoor living space. The continuation of the floor material from outside to in creates a seamless transition between spaces, perfect for those summer months, vastly expanding the social spaces within the home.
