The Southsea White House
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN – SOUTHSEA
The brief was to create a larger open plan kitchen diner and to flood the space with natural daylight. The existing kitchen had already been finished to a high standard so with a new addition of space, a new finish to the floor and replacing of some of the units the proposed scheme would meet all of the requirements.
With the location of the house being in a conservation area we had a few hurdles to jump through (for planning) regarding our design. A key element of the design was to tie the external appearance of the proposed extension to the existing building.
Our clients had a keen eye for design and one requirement was to create a permeable appearance to the front and rear elevations. The one remaining wall was to be left solid to house the entertainment system and storage units. This worked beautifully with views straight through the extension as you enter the property.
Bringing natural daylight into the kitchen/diner was essential, so with the addition of a large roof lantern and with the garden renovated to such a high standard the whole inside/outside spaces really complimented each other.
