Overview
The project brief was to turn this modest bungalow into a large family home with an abundance of open plan space, large living quarters and some unique design features.
The key design principle was to explore the notion of ‘upside-down’ living in order to take full advantage of the views overlooking the harbour. An additional floor was added to house the living/dining/kitchen space, with expansive balcony to the rear of the property. All bedrooms were situated on the ground floor, each with access to an en suite/private bathroom.
A direct access point to the garden was provided through the core of the building, and the entrance also features a double height atrium leading up to the social areas of the house.
The materiality and aesthetic of the house is contemporary through the use of large glazing elements, render and zinc cladding.
