The key elements of this project were to house the bedrooms upstairs, (other than the 1 master bedroom) and to accommodate a large kitchen/ diner replacing the smaller disjointed rooms on the ground floor.
The client specifically requested to avoid the conventional ‘box’ shape dormer to the rear avoiding any ‘ugly’ views of the house (front or back.) The head height was the created by removing and replacing the entire roof which in turn completely transformed the spaces both internally and externally. The client, an avid bike fanatic, also required a seamless transition from his biking adventures, to his home comfort. To achieve this, the requirements were to enter through the garage with a direct access to a utility space to wash the bike down and remove any dirty clothing before entering the house. This created a buffer zone between any messy outside activities and internal home living.
